Learning Outcomes |

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to: 1. Select the appropriate type of greenhouse on a case by case basis. 2. Explain the alternative cultivation techniques and general principles of hydroponic vegetable cultivation. 3. Propose the appropriate greenhouse equipment regarding the heating, ventilation, cooling, fertigation, and automation systems. 4. Describe and evaluate practices for environmental control in greenhouses. 5. Propose the appropriate support system, nutrient solution management, and hydroponic cultivation medium. 6. Compose the suitable nutrient solution for each crop. |

3. SYLLABUS
GREENHOUSES – Production of greenhouse products, types of greenhouses in Greece, selecting the greenhouse location, selecting the greenhouse type. GREENHOUSE ENVIRONMENT – Lighting, shading, temperature, greenhouse heating, heating systems, solar energy, geothermal energy, thermal waste energy, biomass, low temperature water heating systems, energy saving in the greenhouse, reducing the temperature, air relative humidity, ventilation, cooling, carbon dioxide in the greenhouse AYTOMATION SYSTEMS IN GREENHOUSES VEGETABLE CULTIVATION WITHOUT SOIL - Advantages and disadvantages of hydroponic cultivations, types of hydroponic cultivations: cultivation in inert substrates, NFT, airponics, nutrient solution composition – calculations, nutrient solution management |

STUDENT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION |
1. Formal written or oral final theory exam (60%) at the middle and end of the semester (in the middle of the semester the written exam is optional) The final written theory exam includes: - Multiple choice questions - Short answer questions - Comparative evaluation of theory elements 2. Written or oral practicals exam at the end of the semester (40%). The practicals exam includes: - Multiple choice questions - Short answer questions - Problem solving |
