2. LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should:
1. Explains general cultivation practices in the production of ornamental species.
2. Explains the manipulations for the treatment of cultivation and phytopathological problems in the production of ornamental species.
3. Identifies and describes cultivation techniques in selected ornamental species.
4. Identifies the most common species and identifies the uses of ornamental plants in gardening.
5. Describes the pruning techniques of selected species.


General Competences

- have the theoretical and of the field’s background concerning the field of knowledge of the science of Agriculture and the process of crop production
- have the ability to make creative use of scientific knowledge and modern technology for the development and care of all types of plant crops as well as the production and marketing of plant reproductive material
- have acquired the necessary knowledge background to be able to access postgraduate studies
- are able to properly apply their theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during the period of their studies.

3. SYLLABUS

1. Classification of ornamental species (annual, perennial, bulbous, rhizomatous, evergreen and deciduous shrubs, evergreen and deciduous shrubs, climbing plants).
2. Morphological characteristics and type of species’ growth (shape, size, flowering and fruiting season, varieties).
3. Techniques for propagation of selected species.
4. Cultivation technique, soil-climatic requirements, irrigation, fertilization, plant protection pruning.
5. Uses of ornamental plants in gardening.
