Learning Outcomes |
|
|
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to: 1. Know the most important fungal, bacterial and virus diseases infesting vineyards, fruit and horticultural crops, grown both in fields and greenhouses. 2. Know the pathogens life cycles, biology, ecology and epidemiology (conditions conductive for their population increase and serious infestations to crops). 3. Identify the symptoms and know the damages they cause and their economic impact to affected crop plants. 4. Know the strategies (chemical, biological, integrated) implemented for their effective management. |

• Acquire significant theoretical and technical background concerning the field of crop protection against diseases infecting vineyards, fruit and also field and greenhouse horticultural crops in Agriculture Science. • Creatively utilize scientific knowledge and modern technology for effective protection of vineyards, fruit and also field and greenhouse horticultural crops against fungal, bacterial and viral diseases. • Develop necessary background knowledge to be able to attend postgraduate studies. • Be acquainted with the proper application of the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during their under graduate studies. |

In detail, diseases infesting the following fruit and horticultural crop plants will be examined in this course: 1. Diseases of vineyards 2. Diseases of pome trees 3. Diseases of stone fruits 4. Diseases of olive trees 6. Diseases of citrus trees 7. Diseases of nut trees 8. Diseases of solanaceous crops 9. Diseases of cucurbit crops 10. Diseases of crucifer 11. Diseases of umbelliferous, lettuce and bulbous horticultural crops 12. Biological and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in greenhouse crops |

STUDENT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION |
• For the theoretical part of the course: Final written or oral examination (60%) in the middle and at the end of the semester (in the middle of semester the written exam is optional) The written final examination of the theory includes: a) Multiple choice questionnaires b) Short-answer questions c) Comparative evaluation of theory. • For the laboratory practice: Written or oral examination at the end of the semester (40%). The laboratory test includes: a) Multiple choice questionnaires b) Short-answer questions c) Problem solving |
