2. LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the student should:
1. Explain general cultivation practices in the production of floricultural species.
2. Explain the treatments for dealing with cultural and phytopathological problems in the production of potted and cut flowers.
3. Identify and describe cultivation techniques in selected floricultural species.
4. Describes the production processes on a business scale of the most economically important floricultural crops in the country.

General Competences

- have the theoretical and practical background concerning the field of knowledge of Agricultural Science and crop production
- have the ability to creatively utilize scientific knowledge and modern technology for the development and care of all types of plant crops as well as the production and marketing of plant reproductive material
- have acquired the necessary knowledge background to be able to access postgraduate studies
- are able to properly apply their theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during the period of study.

3. SYLLABUS

The course offers theoretical and applied knowledge of business floriculture. General principles concerning the influence of environmental conditions on the physiology of growth and development of flowering species are given, and basic elements of greenhouse construction and management are analysed. Methods of cultivation of the main floricultural species are developed, with the aim of producing propagating material, cut flowers and pot plants. The required environmental conditions, cultivation techniques, plant regulators, harvesting, sorting, preservation, storage, standardization, handling and marketing methods of Rose, Chrysanthemum, Carnation, Gerbera, Lily, Azalea, Cyclamen and Gardenia are analysed.

STUDENT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION 1. Formal written or oral final theory exam (60%) at the middle and end of the semester (in the middle of the semester the written exam is optional)
