2. LEARNING OUTCOMES
Learning Outcomes |
|
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to: 1. Identify and select the appropriate deciduous tree species when installing an orchard. 2. Learn and apply the fruit tree reproduction methods examined in the course. 3. Recognize problems that may arise during the production of horticultural products of deciduous fruit trees. 4. Identify and select the appropriate variety of deciduous fruit trees when planting an orchard. 5. Understand the cultivation techniques that can be applied in an orchard. 6. Connect with agricultural productive entities 7. Design, install and manage an orchard. 8. Suggest solutions on the particular problems that occur during the production process of deciduous fruit trees. 9. Identify and apply the criteria of maturity/ripening and harvest of deciduous fruits. |

General Competences |

• Acquire significant theoretical and technical background concerning the field of crop production on Agriculture Science. • Creatively utilize scientific knowledge and modern technology for the development and care of all types of plant crops as well as the production and marketing of plant material. • Develop necessary background knowledge to be able to attend postgraduate studies. • Be acquainted with the proper application of the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during their undergraduate studies. |
3. SYLLABUS
Economic importance, origin - distribution, systematic classification, morphological characteristics, ecological requirements, plant propagation, varieties, orchard installation, cultivation, irrigation, fertilization, pruning, fruit thinning, maturity, ripening, quality, of the following deciduous fruit trees: a) Pome fruits (apple, pear, quince), b) Stone fruits (peach, apricot, almond, plum, cherry, sour cherry), c) Nuts (walnut, chestnut, hazelnut, pistachio) and d) Others (kiwifruit, fig) |

• For the theoretical part of the course: Final written or oral examination (60%) in the middle and at the end of the semester (in the middle of semester the written exam is optional) The written final examination of the theory includes: a) Multiple choice questionnaires b) Short-answer questions c) Comparative evaluation of theory. • For the laboratory practice: Written or oral examination at the end of the semester (40%). The laboratory test includes: a) Multiple choice questionnaires b) Short-answer questions c) Problem solving |
