Learning Outcomes |

Upon successful completion of this course the student is able to: • Understand the principles applied in the standardization of agricultural products • Organize the processes of sorting, packaging and labeling of agricultural products • Know the regulations of standardization of agricultural products (products of plant and animal origin) • Know the basic functions of packaging and the criteria for selecting the appropriate packaging • Know the available materials and the various systems/methods for food packaging • Know the interactions between foods and food packaging • Know the legislation of food packaging • Know the developments in food and agricultural products packaging • Understand the effect of packaging of agricultural products and food on the environment |

3. SYLLABUS
• Principles applied in the standardization of agricultural products • Sorting, packaging and labelling of agricultural products • Standardization of fresh fruits - vegetables • Standardization of animal products: milk, dairy products, meat, meat products, eggs, honey • Functions of the packaging of a food • Basic principles of selecting the appropriate packaging of agricultural products and food • Materials for food packaging (plastic, wood, paper, glass, metal containers) • Aseptic packaging • Modified atmosphere packaging • Edible packaging • Active and intelligent packaging • Interactions between foods and food packaging • Food packaging and environment |
