2. LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learning Outcomes

This module aims to provide students with specialized lexical, grammatical and discourse elements in the target language in order to help them comprehend texts in the field of Agricultural Economics and Animal and Crop Production. Students focus on improving reading strategies and knowledge in the relevant discipline, and practice their skills through exercises.
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
1. Communicate in simple English, both orally and in writing
2. Identify lexical, grammatical and discourse items in simple ESP written and listening texts
3. Apply knowledge of the function of specific and specialized grammatical and lexical items in ESP texts in a variety of exercises.
4. Demonstrate comprehension of ESP texts by activating previously acquired knowledge in the field of Agricultural Economics, Animal and Crop Production and the language system (e.g. making inferences about the meaning of new words from the context in which they occur and word order, distinguishing what is important for one’s own purposes of reading and skip what is not etc.)
