Learning Outcomes |

The degree-holders are expected to know, understand and be able to do at the end of the learning period of the lesson «Swine farming» the following: • basic principles of swine farming • management of swine farms • biosecurity rules for swine farms. |

3. SYLLABUS
• Swine farming in international and national level, social and economic importance • Breeds and the importance of preserving rare breeds (Greek wild boar) • Breeding of pigs (boars, saws, piglets, Greek wild boar) • Morphological, reproductive and meat-producing characteristics of pigs • Genetic improvement of pigs • Methods of breeding pigs • Well-being of pigs • Pig farms: technical and constructive specifications according to the national legislation and European directives, hygiene and biosafety rules |

The final official evaluation of the lesson includes written examination of lectures (80%) and laboratory practice (20%). The final written examination consists of: • multiple choice or/and fill in the blank questionnaires • true or false questionnaires • short-answer questions |
